Two years ago, when I set off to fulfil my overseas adventure, never did I imagine I’d reach this point. The biggest challenge was being able to find a job that could sustain my lifestyle and fund my travels. Initially the plan was to spend 6 months here in London – little did I know it took close to half a year just to find my feet. Subsequently, I stretched it to another 6 months. The 1 year mark ticked over in a flash and despite having to bid farewell to my best friend, who I began this journey with, I loved it here too much to pack up and leave just yet. And so I continued on and decided to see it through the whole 2 years, even though I was unemployed at the time – risky stuff! Thankfully, things worked out and I took up an ongoing contract that I stayed in for the remainder of my visa. The culture was so laid back it made the workplace a fun environment and the flexibility of the role allowed time for frequent breaks across Europe.
The second year here definitely went by a lot faster than I imagined. The summer was amazing. Sailing the beautiful coastlines of Croatia, Cinque Terre trekking and taking part in the epic-ness of TOMORROWLAND!
Before I knew it, I was a year older. Last year it was Barca, this year…Budapest! What a great city to celebrate another birthday. Thanks to my gorgeous girls who came along for a weekend of eating, partying and relaxing. A little disappointed I didn’t get to do as much sightseeing as I’d hoped for but hey, gives me a reason to return. Let me start with the food. Goulash mMmm.. Couldn’t get enough of it! Apparently the traditional version is meant to be watery but I personally love the stew-like consistency. You can have it on its own, with a freshly baked bread roll, or with the Hungarian noodle – which is very much similar to gnocchi….funny texture, I quite liked it!
As with all my other trips, it’s the local cuisine that sparks my interest most. Couple my passion for food with the comfort of being in a happy relationship… that’s the very reason why I’m the ‘fuller-figured’ Srey you see today. Although I have every intention of trimming down as soon as I touch down in Oz – which isn’t long now. Exactly one week from today, I’ll be enduring another 24 hour flight….only this time it’s a one way ticket in the opposite direction. Having overstayed my visa and being close to getting deported not once, but twice…To say I’m not ready to leave yet is a complete understatement. Did I neglect to mention that I met someone?! The most unlikely person I thought I’d fall for but I’m smitten 🙂 I’ve spent the past few weeks living on a narrowboat moored in Central London. Adapted to the boat lifestyle and have finally taken a liking to it. I could get used to this. One chapter closes, another one begins…
Till next time…Outskies!
Srey x
