Baia Seafood Restaurant (Cape Town)

What do you do when you’re on a business trip and none of your colleagues are around to accompany you for dinner?! You dine alone – after all, a girl’s gotta eat!  Never thought I’d do this but not wanting to miss out on an opportunity to sample one of the top restaurants in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, I phone up Baia and book a table for 1.

And what a way to pop my solo dining cherry! I enter a large room with floor to ceiling windows, making way for unobstructed views of Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak.

I’m shown to my table where I can take in the glorious view. Ah-mazing! Who needs company when you have this staring right back at ya?! I begin with a glass of chenin blanc while I study the menu (again!).

Cheers!

The waitress recommends the shellfish platter of prawns, langoustine and lobster and advises the portion is big enough that a starter is not necessary. Heck! I’m on my own – let’s push the boat out! She clearly doesn’t know I have a healthy appetite so I take her up on her recommendation but politely ignore her advice to skip the starter. I go for a mix plate of beautifully char-grilled squid, baby octopus and a small piece of steak to start with. Lightly dressed with olive oil, lemon and capers to enhance the natural flavours.

Now for the star of the show – a trio of perfectly cooked shellfish. Prawn, langoustine and lobster . Partially steamed to lock in the freshness and finished with a subtly spiced sauce. I work my way from left to right of the plate, saving the best, juicy chunks of lobster for last! Deeeeelish!

And for the grand finale…..

Lindt chocolate pudding smothered in a chocolate and butterscotch sauce.

As my spoon glides through the individually baked fondant, melted Lindt chocolate comes oozing out onto the plate.

Oh. My. God.

An outrageously indulgent dessert that has sent me straight to heaven and back.

The sun sets and creates an amazing backdrop. I sit back and savour that very last bite of Lindt. MmmM can I have another one please?!

Kidding! I’d already maxed out my daily allowance on this meal alone and was extremely satisfied by this point. A memorable meal that was left on a high!

Till next time…Outskies!
